The Carriere® Motion™ appliance is a simpler way to prepare for braces

Misaligned teeth are not only embarrassing, but they can also be harder to clean, increasing your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Braces may seem like the obvious answer, but severe occlusions on the mandibular arch, or top row of your teeth, can sometimes mean that braces are not an option without surgery or tooth extraction to prepare your mouth for them.

Fortunately, there’s now an alternative way to deal with posterior occlusions, or misaligned back teeth, before braces. The Carriere® Motion™ Appliance corrects misalignment of the canine teeth and molars on either the upper arch while only attaching to three teeth.

A short and discreet alignment process

Treatment with the Carriere® Motion™ Appliance typically takes three to four months, cutting significant amounts of time off traditional orthodontic procedures, and can quickly deliver highly visible results.

The Carriere® Motion™ Appliance involves the use of an appliance called a distalizer, which attaches to the canine tooth and second-to-last molar on each side of your mouth. A tooth on each side of the bottom row will be selected as an anchor, and an elastic band will connect the anchor tooth to the distalizer.

The elastic bands will create a light, uniform force that rotates and straightens the first molars, while pulling the entire segment, from canine or premolar to molars, distally, into proper alignment. By then end of treatment, the segments average a change of 3-6 mm in position.

Arriere® Motion™ Appliances can be fixed in a short, straightforward procedure

the Doctor will begin the application procedure for your Carriere® Motion™ Appliance by cleaning the teeth that will be affected by the appliance. Next, an etching substance will be used to shape the surface of the teeth where the two ends of the appliance will be attached.

A sealant resin will follow the etching substance to protect them. Next, the Doctor will place the distalizer on the two teeth using an adhesive substance, carefully positioned before the adhesive dries. the Doctor will use a special light to dry the adhesive and ensure the distalizer is firmly in place. Finally, the elastic band will be attached to both the distalizer and the anchor tooth. The whole procedure can take just a few minutes.

After Carriere® Motion™ Appliance procedures, the Doctor provides Sea Girt, NJ patients with detailed instructions for maintaining proper oral hygiene with the distalizer and anchor in place. This can help ensure both your oral health and the success of your tooth alignment goals.
